Another New Chapter: Card Catalog Donation

While library catalogs have gone digital, that doesn’t mean that vintage wooden card catalogs have been tossed to the curb. Indeed, they are collectors’ items with many uses from storing sewing supplies to seed packets. Seeds? Yes, you heard that right.

The Black Mountain Blooms Seed Lending Library recently received a donation of a card catalog from librarian Michelle Ruedin in memory of her beloved friend, Elizabeth Evangeline Dennis.

Elizabeth was a librarian at High Point University and Randolph Community College. She loved her friends, libraries, and dogs above and beyond all things.  Michelle shares that she “held her hand as she left this world, and I know she would be thrilled to see it in use again in a library. As she was a nurturing and giving person who always put her community first, it is particularly appropriate that it will be used to help our community to love and nurture plants.”This vintage card catalog will be repurposed and filled with seed packets and other information in the coming month.

Remember, the Seed Library kicks off the growing season on February 18 at 2pm with our Sowing Circle Presents: Seed Starting with John Bowen.
