Art in Bloom 

Stroll through the Black Mountain Library Gardens and enjoy the Pollinator Meadow, Rain Garden and Community Container Gardens with “Book Beds,” themed around favorite books. The library is honored to be a featured stop on the Black Mountain Center for the Arts annual Art in Bloom event. Visit here to learn more about Art in Bloom.

Sowing Circle: Roses 101

Join us to learn about the growing, maintenance and best choices for roses in Western North Carolina presented by Buncombe County Extension Master Gardener Volunteer and Consulting Rosarian, Judy Deutsch. This talk has something for everyone, no matter if your garden is large or small, if you want one rose or a bed of roses.

The Black Mountain Tyson Library: The First 100 Years

Researcher and Black Mountain resident Tom Stiles will provide an overview of the founding and growth of the Black Mountain Public Library from 1922 to today. It will introduce the key players including the Friends of the Library and highlight their significant contributions and future of the organization plus ways to become involved. Presented in partnership with the Swananoa Valley Museum and History Center. This program is free; registration required here.

Dark City Poets Society Open Mic at the Lowdown

Share a poem or just listen. 10% of drink sales go to the Friends of the Black Mountain Library. Rain location will be BAD Craft located at 128 Cherry Street in Black Mountain.

Dark City Poets Society Critique 

This meeting is open to writers of all experience levels who are looking for feedback on their poetry.

Sowing Circle: Square Foot Gardening

August is the perfect time to plan a fall vegetable garden using square foot gardening based on a grid of one-foot squares. Buncombe County Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Barb Harrison will share successes and failures from the Center’s summer square foot vegetable garden.

Friends of the Library Pop Up Book Sale

Featuring fiction and children’s books with lots, lots and lots of paperbacks.  Fiction books are $5 a bag with your choice of books, while children’s books are 2 for $1.
