Artist Workshop with Eric William Carroll
Thursday, April 11, 2024, 3:00-5:00pm
Join Buncombe County Special Collections artist resident Eric William Carroll for a hands-on workshop exploring the creative and lasting potential of scrapbooks! Inspired by scrapbooks in the library’s archives, Carroll will lead participants through an updated template for creating scrapbooks, exploring what the visual culture of scrapbooking may look like in a digital age and whose perspectives shape the stories of what it is like to be alive today.
Eric William Carroll’s work on photography, science, and nature explores the differences in how we experience, organize, and represent the world. His photographs, books, installations, and performances engage themes of human obsolescence, ephemerality and memory. At the heart of his practice is a genuine sense of curiosity and humor that questions traditional binary relationships. His past work has included collaborations with other archives including the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (Rosman, NC). The 2024 Creative Residency is made possible in part by the Trust Fund for Buncombe County Public Libraries.
